We briefly stopped over in Québec City on our way to Riviére du Loup. By the time we reached our destination the temperature was plummeting, but once again it was a brilliantly warm show and friendly atmosphere.
The following morning we crossed the impressive St Lawrence Seaway by ferry, then drove through the remote wild scenery of silver birches, frozen lakes, the Saguenay fjord, rocky ridges and snow. Saguenay itself is the last town before the wilderness. Looking over the water at the hills I contemplated that beyond was given over to moose, wolves, bears and a few Inuit settlements... leading to tundra and snowy wastes. It felt incredibly inviting... The sense that you could become a part of nature, be at one with it all.
Despite the remoteness of the place, there was a great crowd that night and we really enjoyed the show.
We had another extraordinary ride the following morning over the beautiful Laurentian mountains through driving snow. It felt like being active participants in an episode of Ice Road Truckers... Québec City with all its lights amidst the white shone like a scene from a Christmas picture book.
Both the Québec and Montréal shows were amazing. Packed houses with incredible audience reaction. We had a great show in Gatineau too.
The Massey Hall gig in Toronto was extraordinary. Electric atmosphere and the crowd was jumping. I remembered the first time Genesis played there and someone shouted out "Sounds like f****** Beethoven!" So I decided to ask the huge crowd filling Massey Hall to shout this out at the same time! It worked a treat and we had just as much of a ball as the audience.
Thank you Canada! I can't wait to return...
