Through the trees...

In the sky tower
We were intrigued as we began our travels to New Zealand. It was the first time for several of us, including Jo and myself. The whole journey was about thirty hours, including three flights. It was hard to tell where our body clocks were at when we finally arrived in Auckland!
The rest of the first day went by in a semi-comatosed blur, but by the following morning, Jo and I felt ready to explore the city. Passing rich vegetation, we were struck by how semi tropical it is despite the temperate weather. The plants are exotic and the trees have those fantastic intertwined trunks, tendrils, branches and roots.
At the Auckland Museum we enjoyed walking around the display of Mãori objects, from totem poles to a huge war canoe and a beautifully carved wooden house. A group of Mãoris put on a compelling performance. They also chatted about their past and culture.
We then walked across to the impressive Sky Tower, from which you can see the whole of Auckland with its harbour and beyond to the volcanic island of Rangitoto.
The show at the Town Hall was a great success, with a fantastic crowd. We all felt the joy... So good to play in New Zealand at last!
With thanks to David Williams, Brian Coles and the whole team.
Now off to Australia, kicking off with the Brisbane show on 2nd August...
