Madrid gig

José Ramirez guitar shop
What a beautiful sight on our arrival in Madrid... The wonderful Neptune fountain! There it was in full view from the hotel room window. A promise of more wonders to come in that great city...
The Botanical gardens where we played was an equally lovely area, surrounded by lush trees. The gig itself had a terrific feel with a fabulously appreciative crowd! It felt special for all of us to be back on tour again, kicking off with such a successful show. Thank you Madrid... Viva España!
We had two days off over the weekend which gave us a chance to explore magical Madrid. It's a great feeling to allow yourself to get lost in the labyrinth of tiny streets and squares in the old town, where at any point you can replenish with a coffee under the sun's warmth outside one of the many cafes. In the midst of this part was the José Ramirez guitar shop. I believe Andrés Segovia crossed that hallowed threshold. I know Ramirez gave Segovia a guitar for free. Realising Segovia couldn't afford it, he asked for repayment with "something other than money". He was impressed by the young man's playing sufficiently to pass that gift on to him...
Beyond the old town, Jo and I strolled past the majestic palace, and then on to the mystical Templo de Debod, an Ancient Egyptian temple dedicated to the goddess Isis. The Egyptians gave it as a present to the Spanish for their help during the creation of the Aswan Dam.
We all ended our stay with a celebration of Rob's birthday... I hope to return to Spain as soon as possible!
And now off to Vigevano for the first gig of the Italian tour...
