Progtastic! - September 12

Picking up the Anthem award

Steven Wilson, Steve and Mikael Akerfeldt
The first Prog Awards ceremony organised by Prog Magazine took place last night (5 September) at Kew Gardens, the original home of the Giant Hogweed that escaped on to the first Genesis album that featured the young Phil Collins and me in 1971...
Some, including Fish and myself, were involved beforehand in the Roundtable discussion beforehand about progressive's roots, branches and boundaries.
Luckily the weather was perfect as so many chums arrived, including Steven Wilson, Mikael Akerfeldt, Nick Beggs, John Wetton and Steve Rothery who are on my up-coming album Genesis Revisited II. It was also fab to chat with those I hadn't seen for a while such as Justin Haywood and Rick Wakeman.
Roger King and I accepted the 'Anthem' award for Squackett's 'A Life Within a Day'. Unfortunately Chris wasn't able to make it, but it was an honour which we all appreciated. It felt great that Genesis received the 'Lifetime Achievement' award.
Jerry Ewing and his team pulled off a fabulous evening...
