The fifth Beatle
I was very sad to hear of the passing of George Martin, who I always saw as more than just the fifth Beatle.
He was deservedly the most famous record producer in the world, a huge influence during my youth. A massive light has gone out in our firmament of musical heroes. The span of his work was impressive, covering a multitude of genres, working with many artists. His approach was transformative with a keen ear to detail.
In the '70s I took advice from him about the mastering of albums. I found him to be gentle, thoughtful and insightful.
My condolences to his family, friends, Paul and Ringo and all who worked with him.
