Deep in the cave
This weekend just gone Jo and I ventured back to the Corycian cave... this time with Paul and Tracey Gosling to film the video for the Wolflight track 'Corycian Fire'.
Staying in Delphi is always a special experience, with those amazingly imposing ruins and fantastic views of mountains, valleys, olive groves and distant sea. Watching the sun set behind the mountains is breathtaking.
There's a quickening of the spirit as we drive up the slopes of Mount Parnassus between bright red flowers and towering poplars with the impressive mountain beckoning us in...
We visited the Corycian Cave twice. The first day we set off in the afternoon to film through sunset into the night. The cave is spooky at the best of times, but at night the bats wake up and strange sounds ring out through the eerie darkness. Fantastic atmosphere for night time shots both inside and at the cave entrance around the sentinel rock with strange otherworldly figures approaching... Then the perilous journey by jeep along the rockiest road imaginable beside a sheer drop through the dark...
On the second day Paul achieved amazing shots in the interior, flames within illuminating all the strange formations in an incredible way... bringing them to life. Singing and hearing the Corycian Fire music echoing through all the chambers of the cavern was a powerful experience.
The Corycian adventure is always an incredible journey through the wild and into the ancient Underworld, where you feel, see and hear extraordinary things. It always draws us back...
