A bright light - December 13

I was sad to hear the news of Nelson Mandela's death. He had the power of great conviction, suffered for his bravery for years and then had the fortitude to put his beliefs into action. He was an equally compassionate man, his gentle and caring nature matching his strength which radiated outwards to millions of people. He ended the evil stranglehold of apartheid in all its inhumanity.

There's a Chinese proverb which claims that it is better to light one candle than rage against the darkness. Mandela was not just a candle but a massive burning torch, defying powerful forces and leading the way towards a better world. He is a non paralleled example and I'm sure his spirit will continue to speak to all of us.
