Stepping through time - November 12

Family receive their award

Doorway to the past...
The last two weeks have been full of experiences with a strange sense of time travel...
Jo and I returned to C S Lewis' house the Kilns in Oxford to see a one man show about Lewis, starring David Payne. We really felt we'd been transported back in time and that it actually was Lewis sitting there in his own home. Then at the suggestion of hostess Debbie I played a few tunes on acoustic guitar, which somehow resonated in a nostalgic way because of the magical history of the place, where he actually wrote the Narnia stories.
Again in a different sense the Classic Rock Awards connected with the past. I was invited to give Family an award. I'd enjoyed listening to their music in the late sixties and it was good to meet them all. I was pleased to see that Genesis' manager Tony Smith also won an award, as he certainly deserves it. Great to engage with many friends there from over the years...
It was also fab to reconnect with another glorious band from the past seeing Focus play at Trading Boundaries. Thijs Van Leer was on fine form and guitarist Menno was fabulous. Roger Dean was there too, along with an impressive exhibition of his paintings.
Now I'm seriously embarking on a time journey of the mind, re-learning all those old Genesis songs and guitar phrases in preparation for what promises to be a real spectacle...
