Colours of the Caribbean
Once again, we were filled with anticipation as we flew to Florida, USA to perform one show before setting off for the five day Cruise To The Edge. The sold out gig in Fort Lauderdale was a success with a wonderful audience, so all took off to a fantabulous start! The following day we boarded the ship...
Despite having to chase pedals as the stage pitched back and forth with the choppy waves rocking the boat on the first show, the two boat performances went well with a great crowd reaction!
It was fun to do the Q&A, and a joy to be interviewed by intelligent and inspiring Jon Kirkman. As ever, good to meet the fans around the boat and on the photo shoot. The cruise also gives us the perfect chance to connect with friends, fellow musicians and business associates.
Jo and I took the chance to disembark with pals when the ship docked a couple of times. We very much enjoyed our excursion on the Dominican Republic, where in a safari style bus we all travelled out into the countryside and up to the mist shrouded top of a mountain, where you could just pick out the tall Christ Statue that overlooks the region. Back into the sunlight on the way down, we turned off to a dirt road where the bus growled like a beast on its bumpy ride! Following a delicious local organic meal, we walked around a gorgeous tropical garden full of brightly coloured flowers and enticing herb fragrances. Finally, having driven further through the spectacular wild scenery, we toured the colourful and picturesque town of Puerto Plata. There was still time for a particularly strong pina colada moment before boarding the ship to continue on our way to the Bahamas. There we enjoyed a couple of hours relaxing beside a palm beach under a deep blue sky. We passed on the chance to go swimming with pigs and stingrays, but others said it was an interesting experience!
The whole boat experience was as enjoyable as ever and it was great to see other performances as well. It all went so fast and as always, sad to say goodbyes... but great to know we'll be on tour in both Europe and the USA this year, so we'll see everyone again soon.
